Christmas street lights on a London street

During the Christmas season, there’s always plenty of activities to partake in, but you may be short of time to fit everything in. In this article, we’ve compiled a list of the best Christmas attractions in London this year, from festive markets to themed outings, there’s plenty to choose from!

Christmas market

Shopping is a big part of Christmas and what better way to shop than to find a unique gift at a Christmas market! Christmas markets are full of great finds and are a great place to browse the tasty food with your friends. The London Christmas market offers a variety of stalls with unusual gifts and handmade crafts, so go and take a look!

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland

Located in the centre of London, Hyde Park Winter Wonderland is the perfect start to a wonderful Christmas. Opening on the 21st November 2019 at 4pm, it offers a range of different attractions and entertainment for people of all ages. You can take the entire family and you’ll all find something you love! Winter Wonderland is completely free to enter, with daytime recommended for families and evenings great for enjoying a mulled wine with friends. There are some ticketed attractions that you can pre-book to give you the full experience.

Admire the decorations!

Nothing signifies the approach of Christmas more than Christmas decorations being hung up and the lights being switched on. Some of the busiest places in London will be lit up with a seasonal glow, all on different days so you can be there to witness them all! We’d highly recommend:

  • Carnaby Christmas lights 2019 – 7 November
  • Covent Garden Christmas lights 2019 – 12 November
  • Regent Street Christmas lights 2019 – 14 November
  • Trafalgar Square Christmas tree 2019 – 5 December
  • Oxford Street Christmas lights 2019 – TBC, however, they are usually the first to be switched on as last year it was November 6th!

Hogwarts in the snow

The Harry Potter series has always had a special place in the British public’s hearts, so it’s no wonder Hogwarts Studio Tour is extremely popular at Christmas! Discover how the filmmakers made Hogwarts so Christmassy during the festive season and pick up some souvenirs and rare collectable items whilst you’re at it! We suggest discovering the set for the iconic Yule Ball scene which took place during the filming for the Goblet of Fire instalment.

St. Paul’s Cathedral

Celebrate the birth of Jesus in the famous St. Paul’s Cathedral at the free Christmas Carol Service on the 23rd and 24th December. Listen to the birth of Christ through a musical performance. If you’d like to see this spectacular performance, arrive early as this is a free service and seating is limited.
